Lady Bitten By Dog Awarded £8,000.00

We were consulted by a female client who had been attacked by a friends dog causing severe lacerations to her face which required extensive stitches and left residual scarring.  Our client was signed up to a conditional fee agreement and a letter of claim was sent to the owners of the dog who referred it to their insurers who in turn referred it to their solicitors.

The Defendant’s solicitors denied liability and claimed that the dog was not dangerous and that the dog had not previously exhibited any dangerous characteristics.

Further evidence was obtained and put to the Defendant’s solicitors.  Counsel’s Advice was also taken and a medical report was commissioned and obtained in respect of the Claimant’s injuries.

Following further submissions made to the Defendant’s solicitors and provision of the medical evidence an offer was received from the Defendant’s solicitors in the sum of £8,000.00 in full and final settlement.  As there were undoubtedly risks in taking the claim to trial following further advices the Claimant accepted the sum of £8,000.00 in respect of her injuries.  This was a satisfactory result for what was a difficult claim to bring.
